Student Councils

The Student Council is a representative structure through which students in the school can become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management and staff and parents for the benefit of the school and its students.

Our students’ council meets regularly throughout the year. The council works closely with school management, teachers and parents, consult regularly with students in the school, and involve as many students as possible in the activities of the Council.

The SMC 5th Year Student Council comprises of the following students:

Chairperson- Rubie McElhinney

Secretary – Chloe Crowley

Freya Walsh, Anna Foley, Rachel Forde, Hannah Smith, Isabelle Daunt, Jenna O’Connor, Emily Brosnan

They represent student voice in the school community and work closely with students to represent their views.

Student Voice

In developing Student Voice, students are encouraged to know that their experiences, opinions and ideas are valued in all aspects of school life. Small focus groups of students engage with students and teachers about their experiences in the classroom. These include questionnaires, conversations and focus group discussions about student experiences inside and outside of the classroom.  This gives students more ownership of their learning and builds their confidence as they ‘develop a voice’. The work on the development of Student voice within the school enriches the quality of teaching and learning.
